Thinking about Advent yet? Consider using my book, Advent in Narnia: Reflections for the Season for your own personal spiritual reading or for your church. It was published by Westminster John Knox last fall, in September 2015, but Advent comes around every year! Let me know if I can offer any help or tips in planning a program that suits your church.
You can use my book for daily reflections, sermon ideas, a family night, and/or the four-part adult series completely outlined in the back. There’s even an unbelievably easy recipe for Mrs. Beaver’s Sticky Marmalade Roll.
I came across this second recipe too late to include in the book, but you’ll definitely want to serve it at your church or holiday party. As one person told me at a talk I gave last year, “I don’t know about Turkish Delight, but I’d definitely betray my siblings for another cup of that stuff!”
The White Witch’s Hot Cocoa
2 cups whipping cream
6 cups whole OR 2% milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
12 oz pkg white chocolate chips
flaked coconut (“snow” topping, optional)
- Combine all ingredients in a slow cooker.
- Heat on low for 2-2 1/2 hours or until chocolate is melted and mixture is hot.
- Stir well to blend. Offer with a bowl of coconut to sprinkle on top, if desired.
